Philadelphia Rugby Football Club (PRFC) is the third oldest historically women’s rugby club in the nation and the oldest in the Philadelphia area. Established in 1976, the Club was one of four East Coast teams to go to the first ever National Competition in 1978. Top performance within Division I women’s rugby continued with participation in the Club 15s National Tournament in 1997 and 1998; the Club 15s National Sweet 16s in 1999-2002, 2004, 2006, 2008-2010; and Elite 8s in 2007, 2012, 2014 and 2018. In the fall of 2017, PRFC expanded with the addition of a Division III team. The competitive 7's squad has made six trips to Nationals in the last eleven years and most recently competed on the national stage in August 2017.
Our Club is, and always has been, home to players of many different backgrounds and identities. In 2021, we removed the “women’s” identifier in our club name to demonstrate our commitment to inclusivity and equality within the sport. Our Club is a space for all people to grow, no matter their gender identity or expression.
PRFC wishes to make our Club accessible to all who wish to play, coach, or spectate by removing barriers caused by social injustice and racial inequality. Additionally, PRFC aspires to be a safe space for players, coaches, and fans to fulfill their rugby goals, develop camaraderie, and be a positive presence in our community.
Currently the club fields both a Women’s Club Division I and Division III 15's side in addition to both a premier and open Summer 7's team. Players of all experience levels are welcome! Email recruiting@philadelphiarugby.org to learn more!
